We are incredibly excited to work with one of the UK's most revered yoga teachers, Durga Devi for the first time. Durga has been teaching internationally for over 16 years and practicing for over 20 and is recognised as a leading light in the yoga of Jivamukti. Durga is a senior teacher at famed London studios, Triyoga, where she also leads monthly kirtan. Durga's kirtan and voice work experience is extensive, having trained with Jai Uttal and Bhagavan Das, who continue to influence her.

Denise Teperino was given the name Durga Devi by her beloved teachers, Sharon Gannon and David Life, the founders of Jivamukti Yoga. Her many years of teaching experience, combined with her deeply authentic and humble holding of space, creates a powerful and meditative experience. Each class will be suitable for all levels, so whether you're new to yoga or have many years practice, this retreat space will offer you support and exploration.

The Jivamukti style of yoga beautifully incorporates some of the core tenets of traditional yogic practices, meaning asana (physical movement), spiritual philosophy, bhakti (devotion), meditation, pranayama and music are all key aspects. The physical practice will be tailored to your needs, with the general aim to gently open the body, release any tension, whilst strengthening and toning... Clearing out old energy and bringing fresh vitality to all! You can find out more about the Jivamukti practice here.

During our FIND YOUR VOICE retreat, Durga Devi will guide guests through a powerful and healing combination of a dynamic physical practice in the morning and more introspective, restorative practices in the evening. Our intention for this retreat is to help you connect to yourself, your true needs and the way these are communicated. Using asana (physical practice), meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises), our twice daily sessions will clear cluttered minds and bodies. By cultivating balance, strength and flexibility in the body, mind and heart, this retreat will shift anything that's not serving you.

"We all resonate at different frequencies and these change according to what we are doing and thinking. When we are all doing the same thing (chanting, breathing, and moving to the same rhythms) our vibrations begin to synchronize and the resulting experience can be very powerful..."

Kirtan is the devotional act of chanting meditational mantra. When kirtan is entered in to with an intention and attitude of devotion to something greater than ourselves, as with all meditation practices, it has the distinct ability to still the mind - and open the heart. It can be experienced in many different ways, but essentially, by chanting ancient sacred sounds in unison, we can clear, shift and raise our cellular and energetic vibration very quickly. Durga Devi will be leading a kirtan evening with live accompaniment during our retreat. It's a magical experience and we really encourage our guests to take part, however as with all aspects of the retreat it is completely optional. The beauty of kirtan and chanting is that you need zero experience - it's open to everyone and a complete joy to experience!

Nicola has a wealth of healing experience and has been working with the breath for many years. During retreat she will work on a 1-2-1 basis with guests and also host a group workshop introducing guests to the profound benefits of 'Inspirational Breathing'. This simple but life-changing practice can enable people to really shift stuff... To let go of deeply suppressed emotions, to get clear of areas of their life, making way to access a sense of peace and relaxation. All by connecting to their body on a cellular level by engaging with their own 'inspirational breath'.

We often hold stuck emotions, tension and all sorts of other restrictive energy in our throat area, which in turn can deeply effect the way in which we communicate. The practice of becoming familiar with our own sound, in a held, nurturing and not to mention fun space, is a deeply empowering experience. Andrea is a highly trained opera singer and experienced voice coach. And she truly believes everyone can sing! Her beautifully encouraging, nurturing and enthusiastic teaching style can help even the shiest of voices come out for a little air time! Absolutely no prior experience is needed to partake (nor are the workshops obligatory) but we can guarantee you'll have a joyful experience.
Andrea will lead two group workshops during retreat, helping you to reveal and re-connect to your own unique voice. Guests will also have the opportunity to work on a 1-2-1 basis with Andrea.

Or maybe take a trip to the local market town and soak up the crazy sights and sounds of a real Indian hub. We love to visit the magical perfumer Ramakrishna and receive a blessed personalised scent. There’s also the famed, lively night market for the shoppers, one of many shopping opportunities! So many beautiful restaurants for the foodies. And those who need more action, there's great water sports nearby. Come and chant in the local temples with us, buy crystals from our resident crystal expert.
